Description

Precision Starts with the First Layer

Bambu Smooth PEI Plate – Accurate Printing with a Matte Finish

The Bambu Smooth PEI Plate provides a flat printing surface for precise first layers, improved Z-axis accuracy and a smooth matte finish on the bottom of every model.

Its magnetic spring-steel construction holds securely to the heatbed while remaining flexible enough for easier print removal after cooling.

Bambu Smootth Plate

Z-Axis Precision

The flat PEI surface supports accurate first-layer height and consistent vertical dimensions.

Smooth Matte Finish

The surface transfers a clean, low-gloss texture to the bottom of printed models.

Strong Magnetic Hold

The spring-steel plate attaches securely to the printer’s magnetic heatbed.

Broad Material Support

Use it with PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA, PC, PA and selected fibre-reinforced materials.

Accurate First Layers

Improved Z-Axis Precision for Tight-Fitting Parts

A flat and consistent build surface helps the printer place the first layer at the correct height.

As a result, the Smooth PEI Plate can improve dimensional consistency in the vertical direction and support better alignment between printed parts.

This makes it a useful choice for components that need accurate fit, including enclosures, mechanical assemblies, prototypes and engineering parts.

  • Mechanical parts with tight tolerances
  • Snap-fit components
  • Functional enclosures
  • Precision prototypes
  • Parts that must align after assembly

Refined Surface Quality

Smooth and Matte Bottom Surface

The specially selected PEI sheet transfers a smooth, low-gloss texture to the first layer of the model.

Therefore, the underside of the print can look cleaner and more professional than parts printed on coarse or heavily textured surfaces.

This finish is particularly suitable for display parts, product prototypes, logos, cases and models where the build-plate side remains visible.

Broad Filament Support

Compatible with Everyday

Smooth PEI works with common materials such as PLA, PETG and TPU.

However, Bambu Lab recommends using a suitable glue layer for materials other than PLA. The glue can improve adhesion and also act as a release barrier that helps protect the PEI sheet.

  • PETG and PETG-CF

Magnetic spring steel Bambu build plate

Stable During Printing

Reliable Magnetic Adhesion Helps Reduce Warping

The spring-steel core attaches firmly to the printer’s magnetic heatbed.

This secure connection helps the plate remain flat during heating and cooling, which is especially useful for larger models and materials that may shrink as they cool.

Once the print finishes, allow the plate to cool before gently flexing it to release the model.

Important Note for Bambu Lab A1 Users

The Smooth PEI sheet increases the distance between the spring-steel plate and the heatbed magnets.

On the A1, this may slightly reduce magnetic attraction compared with thinner build plates. Therefore, there may be a higher risk of plate corners lifting or large printed parts detaching under demanding conditions.

Confirm that the plate is clean, properly aligned and fully attached before printing. Adjust heatbed temperature, brim settings and adhesive use when needed.

Recommended Heatbed and Glue Settings

The values below provide a starting point. However, you may need to adjust temperature, cooling, adhesive and other slicer settings for your model and filament.

MaterialHeatbed TemperatureGlue Required?
PLA / PLA-CF / PLA-GF45–60°CNo
PETG / PETG-CF60–80°CGlue stick or liquid glue
ABS90–100°CGlue stick or liquid glue
ASA90–100°CGlue stick or liquid glue
TPU35–45°CGlue stick or liquid glue
PVA45–60°CGlue stick or liquid glue
PC / PC-CF90–110°CGlue stick
PA / PA-CF / PAHT-CF90–110°CGlue stick
PET-CF80–100°CGlue stick or liquid glue

ABS, ASA, PC, PA and other materials that require high bed temperatures are not recommended for A1 Mini when they exceed the printer’s supported temperature range.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Dust, fingerprints and grease reduce first-layer adhesion. Therefore, clean the printing surface regularly.

  • Wash the plate with warm water and ordinary dishwashing detergent
  • Use a clean sponge that does not contain oils or lotion
  • Rinse the plate thoroughly after washing
  • Dry it with a clean paper towel
  • Avoid touching the printing area after cleaning
  • Do not use acetone because it can damage the PEI surface

If adhesion declines after extended use, carefully sanding the surface with fine 600-grit sandpaper may help restore grip. Clean the plate thoroughly after sanding.

Removing Surface Bubbles

If bubbles appear below the PEI sheet, heat the plate on the heatbed at no less than 80°C for several hours.

The heat may help the adhesive settle and reduce trapped air.

Allow the Plate to Cool

Wait several minutes after printing before removing the model.

Cooling reduces adhesion and lowers the risk of damaging the print or PEI surface.

Simple Installation

Install the Smooth PEI Plate in Two Steps

  1. Align the plate with the fixed locating points on the heatbed, keeping the printed plate name facing you.
  2. Lower the plate carefully and allow it to attach to the magnetic platform.

Confirm that the plate is flat, centred and correctly positioned against the rear guides.

Select Smooth PEI Plate or the correct equivalent plate profile in Bambu Studio before printing.

Build Plate Care and Warranty Notice

The Smooth PEI Plate is a consumable component. Heating, cooling, model removal and regular use will gradually wear the surface.

Warranty coverage generally applies to manufacturing defects rather than cosmetic wear, scratches, dents or cracks caused during use.

The PEI sheet is permanently bonded to the steel plate and should not be peeled away or replaced separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Bambu Smooth PEI Plate best used for?

It is ideal for parts that need accurate first layers, a smooth matte bottom surface and consistent vertical dimensions.

Does the Smooth PEI Plate require glue?

PLA usually does not require glue. Bambu Lab recommends using glue for other materials, including PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA, PC and nylon-based filaments.

Why is glue recommended for PETG and engineering filaments?

Glue can improve adhesion and also create a protective release layer between the filament and the PEI sheet, reducing the risk of surface damage.

Can I use acetone to clean the plate?

No. Acetone can damage the Smooth PEI surface. Use warm water and ordinary dishwashing detergent instead.

How should I clean the Smooth PEI Plate?

Wash it with warm water, detergent and a clean sponge. Rinse thoroughly, dry with a clean paper towel and avoid touching the printing area afterwards.

Why should I wait for the plate to cool?

Cooling reduces adhesion and helps the model release more easily, lowering the risk of damaging the PEI sheet or the printed part.

Can the Smooth PEI sheet be removed from the steel plate?

No. The PEI sheet is permanently bonded to the spring-steel plate and is not designed to be peeled off or replaced separately.

Which size should I choose?

Choose the 350 × 320 mm version for compatible H2-series printers, the 256 × 256 mm version for compatible X1, P1, A1 and P2S printers, or the 180 × 180 mm version for A1 Mini.

Is the Bambu Smooth PEI Plate available in Cyprus?

Yes. The Bambu Smooth PEI Plate is available from The 3D Factory with local support and delivery across Cyprus.
